LAAD.. Latin America's largest defense show to kick off tomorrow in Brazil

LAAD Defence & Security 2023 will bring together more than 500 brands to present the most modern equipment, services and technologies from 20 segments of the defence and security industry

Expected to bring together more than 40,000 specialized professionals, including more than 200 official delegations with high-ranking authorities from the military forces of several Latin American countries and other continents, LAAD Defence & Security 2023 organizes its 13th edition from April 11 to 14, in Riocentro, in the city of Rio de Janeiro.

On this occasion, the defence and public security industry will present the main novelties for the segments of aeronautical and naval engineering, personal and tactical equipment, ammunition, and armaments, optical and optronic, consulting, training and services, cyber defense and cyber security, counterterrorism, transmission, communication and positioning, emergency, rescue and rescue, access control and surveillance, criminal and forensic expertise and vehicles.

For Sergio Jardim, general manager of Creative Events - organizer of LAAD Defence & Security - the event, after a 4-year hiatus due to the pandemic, reveals the overcoming of this difficult moment for various productive sectors and, at the same time, reinforces the opportunities to launch products and services for a qualified audience with high decision-making power.

"Undoubtedly, LAAD 2023 will be the main showcase of the public defence, civil and security industries offering, in addition to business opportunities, an overview of the most modern existing technologies, promoting the updating of professionals in the sector and strengthening its relationship with the industry", says Jardim.

According to the executive, the investment and modernization agenda of the Military Forces, recently disclosed by the Federal Government, should also be a determining factor for the success of the event and increase of business.

To get an idea of the capacity and potential of the country, data from ABIMDE - Brazilian Association of Defense and Security Materials Industries indicate that the industry employs about 2.9 million people directly and indirectly, representing more than 4.5% of GDP.

A study conducted in 2021 in Brazil by the Federation Institute of Economic Research (Fipe) with the National Confederation of Industry (CNI), revealed that the participation of the Defence Industrial Base in the national GDP grew by more than 8% in the biennium 2019-2020 compared to 2018, surpassing, in 2020, rates of traditional sectors of the Brazilian economy such as civil construction, agriculture and oil extraction.

International presence

The Brazilian potential in the defence and security segments is the main reason for the significant international market present in the next edition of LAAD Defence & Security, representing 50% of the total confirmed exhibitors.

According to the organizers, this edition should surpass the record of foreign companies participation, a fact that consolidates the country as the largest Latin American market in the defense and security segment.

"The potential offered by the country in terms of business, partnerships and development of new technologies is undoubtedly quite expressive. In the next edition, we will have the participation of companies from all continents, with emphasis on the pavilions of Turkey, the United States and Canada, as well as the participation of companies from countries such as India, England, Italy, and France, among others", says Jardim.

"LAAD Defence & Security is the show that attracts the most foreign visitors, reinforcing Brazil's strategic importance in the international defense and security scenario," adds the executive, who also highlights the expectation of the presence of an average of 40,000 professionals during the four days of the event, including 200 official delegations with senior officials from several countries.

"The show is also a great opportunity for Brazilian companies to present their solutions and innovations to delegations from more than 150 countries, in addition to promoting networking among experts from around the world and the possibility of establishing strategic partnerships for production and marketing," Jardim concludes.

Parallel to the event, the X International Symposium on Military Logistics, organized by the Ministry of Defense, exclusively for student officers of the Military Schools of the three Forces, also takes place.
