With the possibility of Brazil going forward with Purchasing the CV90 armed combat vehicle, BAE systems, the manufacturer of the vehicle, once more confirms on the unrivalled capabilities of the CV90 with its latest version MkIV.

And according to an article by Reuters, BAE Systems is scheduling a test of its CV90 armored combat vehicle in Brazil this year.

In an interview with defensehere.com, the director of Business Development for BAE Systems Hägglunds, Peter Nygren, talked about the capabilities of the CV90 armored combat vehicle and the CV90 Mark IV, which is considered to be the next step in the evolution of the CV90 vehicles.

Produced by BAE Systems Hägglunds, a subsidiary of British defense manufacturer BAE Systems, the CV90 is a family of tracked armored combat vehicles engineered to provide optimum mobility and agility.

CV90

The CV90 has one of the most advanced survivability solutions available in the world, providing flexible and modular solutions for any mission requirements. The CV90 is also compatible with a range of armaments to suit any customer requirements. It can support different configurations such as manned and unmanned turrets and integration of missile systems. The vehicle is powered with high torque V8 diesel engine and its newer variant are capable of travelling up to 900 km.

And according to Nygren, more than 1400 units of the vehicle has been sold to 8 countries around the world. These countries include Denmark, Estonia, Finland, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, and Switzerland.

The CV90 comes in 5 different generations starting from Mk 0 and evolving to Mk IV.

CV90 Mark IV

CV90MkIV is a fifth-generation combat-proven Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV) that represents the next step in the evolution of the CV90 concept.

With a new engine, the MkIV boasts up to 1,000 horsepower and the latest upgraded X300 heavy-duty transmission. The Gross Vehicle Weight Rating is increased from 35 tons to 37 tonnes, offering users two tons of extra payload without a decrease in vehicle agility. The MkIV generation will also be the first Western IFV with a qualified Active Protection System.

And Nygren stated that the CV90 MkIV features new capabilities such as anti-tank guided missiles, active protection systems and all the latest features to meet the threat our customers face.

Meeting BAE systems ?

Finally, Nygren mentioned that BAE systems will be joining IDEF'23 which is to take place in Istanbul, Türkiye between 25-28 July 2023. “BAE system will really look forward to meeting new customers, other customers, at IDEF,” he said.

  1. UK should have purchased this vehicle instead of attempting to develope the Ajax. CV90 platform is combat proven equipment and already in well established production.
