ARMELSAN's Orkun-2053 Sonar Advancing Naval Capabilities

In an interview with Defensehere.com, ARMELSAN's General Manager, Can Emre Bakım, discussed the newly unveiled Orkun-2053 dipping sonar, which was introduced at IDEF2023.

Can Emre Bakım emphasized the significance of the Orkun-2053 sonar, a development by the Turkish Naval Forces aiming to reduce external reliance:

"At the IDEF 2023 event, we proudly introduced our latest innovation, the Orkun-2053. This cutting-edge technology is designed to detect submarine threats at extended distances. Traditionally, submarines are pinpointed using sonar systems on surface platforms, much like a cat and mouse game. Submarines typically anticipate the presence of surface vessels and adjust their positions accordingly. Helicopters are the primary platform for countering submarines due to the advantage of submarines being unable to detect helicopter positions until their sonars are activated. Notably, the dipping sonar showcased here has the ability to explore depths of up to 500 meters, using a submersion method. Upon reaching its operational depth, the system deploys its wings, as seen in this demonstration, to transmit a high-power signal. Subsequently, the system engages in listening through its integrated microphones."
