Disaster relief charity's flood appeal receives full funding

BAE Systems has announced a partnership with REACT, a UK-based disaster relief and humanitarian aid charity. The Company has fully funded the charity’s £30,000 UK Flood Appeal to enable it to recruit, train and equip teams of volunteer flood responders across the country.

This winter, more than 5 million British homes are at risk of flooding. The last decade has seen an increase in flooding events from heavy rain, overflowing rivers and sea surges, which has caused a growing humanitarian need with homes destroyed, lives disrupted and communities left in turmoil.

The funding from BAE Systems will create four teams of specialist flood responders who will be capable of entering affected areas and relocating those in peril, as well as providing information and welfare support. The teams will be equipped with a range of tactical equipment to help them in their disaster relief role, including protective and thermal clothing, floatation devices, throwlines and inflatable rafts.

Established in 2015 and operating in the UK and overseas, REACT prides itself on repurposing the skills and experience of military veterans to turn them into exceptional emergency responders. Its teams of volunteers have the skills and training to rapidly identify and meet critical needs, helping people and communities affected by sudden or unexpected events.

"We’re proud to partner with REACT to help extend its nationwide network of flood responders. With almost half of REACT’s volunteers being military veterans who are selflessly giving back to their country for a second time, this funding supports both our armed forces community and local communities where our people live and work across the country." Gabby Costigan, Group Managing Director Business Development, BAE Systems

"We’re incredibly grateful to BAE Systems for its generous donation to support REACT's flood response ambitions. This new funding allows REACT to establish its first UK flood response capability, having a game-changing impact on our ability to support the emergency services when flooding strikes. With BAE Systems’ backing, we’re able to train and equip teams of REACT flood responders to support communities across the UK when they need it most. Thank you." Toby Wicks, CEO, REACT Disaster Response

In 2022, BAE Systems contributed more than £11.5m to projects supporting its local communities, education and the armed forces through charitable sponsorships, donations, employee fundraising and volunteering.
