Pantsir Goes Global?

Russia is offering its partner countries to localize the production of the Pantsir self-propelled anti-aircraft gun-missile (SPAAGM) system, Russian defense exporter announced.

"We offer friendly countries a unique format of cooperation, which consists in localizing the production of Pantsir on the customer’s territory", said Alexander Mikheev, Director General of Rosoboronexport, at the World Defense Show 2024 in Riaydh, Saudi Arabia.

He added, that enthusiastic reviews about Pantsir combat work in the special military operation zone were coming from foreign partners, including from the Middle East countries.

"The partners were especially impressed by the 100% destruction of projectiles fired in one salvo from modern MRLS produced by Western manufacturer", said Rosoboronexport's CEO.

At the WDS, the High Precision Weapons, the parent company of Pantsir's producer KBP, announced, that a new small counter-UAV missile for Pantsir will complete trials in 2024.

"A small-size missile was designed to increase the productivity of the system against new threats of massive drone engagement. Trials are ongoing and will be completed this year," the company said.

According to the Russian media, mini-missiles increase significantly the missiles load of the Pantsir and make it more efficient in intercepting targets in a close-in zone.

Currently Russia is marketing two versions of the Pantsir: Pantsir-S1 and the latest Pantsir-S1M unveiled for the first time at the ARMY-2019 defence show.

Earlier the High Precision Weapons announced, that the Pantsir had been modified based on the combat experience acquired on the battlefields of Ukraine.

Most Russian military experts have a common point that the current conflict gives much needed information and basis for further based-on-experience modernization of the existing types of weapons. Russia therefore is getting a possibility of combat-testing a wide range of its weapons. The introduction of the cutting-edge upgrades into export-oriented products could give Moscow an advantage at the global arms market.
