Dutch jets intercept Russian military aircraft near Polish airspace

Dutch fighter jets intercepted three Russian military aircraft near the Polish airspace, the Netherland's Defense Ministry said late Monday.

Two F-35 jets, deployed in Poland for a NATO mission, took off to identify three unidentified aircraft that were detected as approaching the Polish airspace from Russia’s Kaliningrad direction, the ministry said in a statement.

The unknown planes were later identified as two SU-27 fighter jets and one IL-20 electronic intelligence plane.

On Tuesday, NATO Air Command affirmed the incident on Twitter, and said the Dutch jets were supported by German Eurofighter jets.
