U.S. Air Force selected Kaney to develop critical flight surface control actuation technologies

In a press release by Kaney, Inc., the company announced that it is pleased to announce that it has been selected by the United States Air Force for the Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) program through AFWERX. The program will develop critical flight surface control actuation technologies aimed at urban air mobility (UAM) and advanced air mobility (AAM) for civilian and military air platforms. Work will be performed by Kaney teams in Rockford, IL and Dayton, OH.

Under this contract, Kaney will develop a family of robust, reliable servo actuators with a common base and modular features to meet the unique needs that result from non-standardized flight profiles. Kaney will develop and integrate a unique magnetic gear technology developed by our STTR. This technology will be integrated into our Smart Servo product line, which is currently a flagship Kaney product with over 5,000 units in service on military and commercial aircraft. Kaney’s Smart Servo technology will be advanced to enable Skyborg and low-cost attritable air platforms (LCAAT/LCAAPS) in addition to ORB and AAM/UAM platforms supported by Agility Prime.

Kaney’s unparalleled experience in manufacturing critical military and aerospace motion control products, power generation/distribution, and control will be leveraged for this new product development. Kaney actuators are on test aircraft and iron birds for both new vehicle designs and type-certified aircraft being modified.
