HENSOLDT receives further flight type certification for miniature flight recorder SferiRec LCR100

The sensor solution provider HENSOLDT has received another flight type certification for the light crash recorder SferiRec LCR100. With immediate effect, the flight recorder may be integrated into all fixed-wing aircraft of the type "Beech King Air". The Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) issued by EASA (European Aviation Safety Agency) complies with EASA requirements CAT.IDE.A.191 and SPO.IDE.A.146 respectively.

The testing and certification on the first flight type was carried out by "airplus engineering GmbH", a part of "Rheinland Air Service GmbH". The company specialises in modifications and upgrades of aircraft and rotorcraft, including overhaul and conversion for special missions.

Steffen Kolditz, Head of HENSOLDT's Airborne Solutions Business Unit, said: "With the certification on one of the most popular twin-engine turboprop aircraft, we have reached another milestone. In order to further expand our portfolio, trials are currently underway on another 'Cessna 208 Caravan' type, which is new to us. HENSOLDT is making an important contribution here to increasing safety in civil and commercial aviation."

The SferiRec LCR100 can not only support data evaluation after an aviation accident, but also help to prevent accidents. Critical situations can be processed with the available values afterwards in a data-based and professional manner.

Last October, the SferiRec LCR100 received the ETSO certification (European Technical Standard Approval) for aircraft equipment components from the European Aviation Safety Agency EASA. Due to its extremely low weight, volume and power consumption, the new flight data recorder makes it possible to equip light aircraft and drones, as well as business jets and light helicopters.

The integrated sensors include an integrated microphone for ambient noise, three-axis gyroscope and accelerometer, a temperature sensor, a GPS receiver and an air pressure sensor. The SferiRec LCR100 is the first combined flight recorder qualified and approved according to the certification requirements of ED-155 and ETSO-2C197 in Europe.
