Ukraine and Sri Lanka to deepen cooperation in defense sector

According to a press release by Ukroboronprom on December 14, Ukraine and the Republic of Sri Lanka plan to intensify and expand defense partnership. This agreement was reached after the meeting between the leaders of Ukroboronprom and Ukrspetsexport State Company, which is a part of Ukroboronprom State Concern, with Mohamed Rizvi Hassen, the Ambassador of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka to Ukraine (based in Ankara).

During the meeting, the possibilities and prospects of Ukrainian defense industry were presented. Further development of military-technical cooperation between our countries was also discussed.

Yuriy Shramko, Deputy General Director of Ukrspetsexport, spoke about his readiness to support high dynamics of the partnership in the framework of bilateral projects in the aviation industry, in particular, the supplies, maintenance, repair and modernization of equipment.

"Sri Lanka has long been a reliable partner of Ukraine in military-defense partnership, and we are interested in the development of bilateral relations," Mr. Shramko said.

The Sri Lanka’s Ambassador assured the participants of the meeting of his country's unwavering desire to strengthen relations with Ukraine in the military-technical sphere and readiness to discuss new major bilateral projects.

In April 2021 military delegation from Sri Lanka headed by the Commander of the country’s Air Force, Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana, visited Ukraine. During his visit, the Air Marshal had a meeting with the managers of the State Concern and was shown the production and technologies of overhaul, modernization and construction of aircraft at Ukroboronprom enterprises.
